15th National Rural Health Conference
Hello Hobart! I'm so excited to have been flown down to Hobart to talk at the 15th National Rural Health Conference.
My presentation will be at 11am on Wednesday in the Merino Room at the Old Wool Store.
The abstract I submitted is titled 'New, real, effective support desperately needed for people suffering with mental illness'. I will be discussing holistic healthcare, non-violent communication and dance and it's place in mental health care. The full paper will be available HERE when it's published after the conference closes.
It feels incredible for me to not only be presenting but also for the welcome that I have received from the organisers and other delegates, exhibitors and professionals. There has been an overwhelming positive reception for my work and I'm feeling really excited to have this opportunity to present as a consumer advocate. I'm also feeling very supported in being able to bring Luna with me through the entire process.
How beautiful is the view from where we're staying? Such a stunning sunrise to wake up to.
This is what happens when I forget to write a bio and the organisers do it instead...
The Welcome to Country by Palawa people of Lutruwita (Tasmania) included beautiful songs from local elders and dances by local youth.
Anna Reynolds, Lord Mayor of Hobart puts so many politicians to shame, what a magnificent woman with such a big heart and has already made her mark across the country.
It's been great to see some large-scale change on our trip so far with Bio-Plastics on the train to Cairns.
And the Grand Chancellor hotel, where the conference is being held, has compostable bin liners for all of their separate bins for recycling and general waste. Turns out that Hobart is the first capital city in Australia to ban ALL single-use plastics!
More to come...
